The theme for this week’s challenge over at I Heart Faces is Red in support of American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women ~ a great initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health. I initially thought of all the cuties I photographed in their Christmas best {ususally red}, or a number of Valentine’s-themed photos, but in considering the motivation behind the theme, I chose differently. I really like this pic from a vacation we took to New Orleans. I hadn’t been too far out of my IHF workshop and made a promise to myself to only shoot in manual mode. My hubby and I walked all over the French Quarter and surrounding areas when we stumbled upon this intriguing group of troubadours late in the afternoon. This photo of the band’s only girl is one of my faves from that trip, and a proud one for me in my first real stab at shooting in manual mode.
She and her troop of misfits resembled a true traveling gypsy band with instruments ranging from a washboard to a banjo, sitting on old wooden boxes and crates as they played songs from a time long ago. I love the girl’s exaggerated attempt at being a redhead, the flower in her wild hair, her pirate-ish attire, the fiddle…
I hope you like the photo!
