Where has this week gone? Sheesh! Seven days ago, I was boarding the plane to paradise. Today, I am sitting here in my PJs, finishing up some photos, and debating doing laundry and cleaning the house. Oh what I would give to be sitting on a beach chair, sun on my skin, book in my hands, and not a care in the world…
1. First Thing’s First. I added a new feature to the blog where you can sign up to receive emails when I publish new posts here. So if you are uber-busy, or simply want to get first dibs on give-aways, promos, sneak peeks, and other jazz I blog about, sign up by clicking on the SIGN UP tab {over there at the left} and type in your email address. You will start receiving an email each time I share a post 🙂 Woohoo, right? Ha! Also, if you have a blog feed, you can add my blog by clicking on the orange icon on the main menu.
2. Is it Fall Yet? I am so excited about all of the shoots that I have scheduled for the fall, and am pretty impressed with how quickly you all got on top of things and booked your family sessions this year! Kudos, folks — major kudos! I am just about booked up for October-December, so if you need to schedule a session with me, do it fast fast fast! Spots are very limited and I have a feeling that they will be gone-zo by the time September hits.
3. Have You Ever Seen the Rain. If you live in Texas, you are probably well aware of the extreme lack of rain this summer. Yes, it is always hot here, and in Houston, humid as can be, but the drought that we’ve endured has been just terrible 🙁 Miraculously though, while the Hubs and I were outside last night, he pointed out what looked like a rain cloud. Not 30 minutes later {after 3 or 4 more rain comments from Hubs}, we looked up to find a huge black cloud moving toward us, complete with lightning! I almost forgot what lightning looked like! Gah! We raced home just before the winds really picked up and watched the storm roll in from our living room window. I tried to go outside and snap some pics {like a complete moron} but the wind was horrible! I snuck out into the driveway a few minutes later and pointed my iPhone at the sky to see what I could snag, but holy crap the lightning was intense. I don’t recommend looking straight up into a lightning storm with a phone pointed at the sky…just sayin. After two blackouts and 20-something candles, the storm passed and we were left feeling so grateful to see the ground covered in water 🙂
4. Batter Up! Hubs pulled down my old softball bag from the attic. It was torn and a little dirty, but chock full of memories. I dug out my trusty glove, initials CLS printed on the tag. I haven’t used it in a few years, but it fit my hand like a, well, like a glove 🙂 I played softball most of my life and after we moved out to the burbs, I thought it would be super easy to find a co-ed league to join. Wrrrrrrong. That has proven to be quite a difficult task. BUT Hubs has an annual company picnic in the fall, complete with a softball tourney, and guess who signed up?! You got it — the Davis’ are hittin the diamond, baby! Practice officially starts tonight and I am pumped. We went out to a big field by the house last night and warmed the arm up a bit. The first throw was a little off, ehem. But you know what they say: it’s like riding a bike, and we were quickly back on track. I am beyond excited to get to play again and I know that our team is going to kill it in the tournament 🙂
5. TV Bland. Summer is usually time for mediocre TV, at best. However, I was looking forward to watching some of my favorite HBO shows that aired while regular TV took a snooze: Weeds, The Big C, and True Blood. It’s been a few episodes in, and I must say that I am dis-a-appointed! Week after week of boring plots, bizarre and totally unbelievable twists, and depressing setbacks, tend to leave Troy and me frowning at the TV. So frustrating 🙁
6. Candy + Iron. Like I mentioned last week, Sunday marked six years together for me and Hubs. It started over lots of denial, flirting, more denial, a red Skittles incident, and many dates meals at Taco Bueno {our fave!}. I look back at the day he finally asked me to be his girlfriend and I always smile. Ear. To. Ear. 🙂 It was a long time coming {our friends would agree} and we haven’t looked back since. What a blessing to be with someone you can laugh with, someone who loves you in spite of your many flaws, and who you can share everything with. I knew a long time before we started dating that Troy would be the guy I married. I think that deep down, he knew it too 🙂 The tiny Hallmark pocket calendar says that traditionally, {for wedding anniversaries} you gift something of candy or iron. How random, huh? As much as I would love to go out and get Hubs some iron, I think I will go grab a pack of Skittles from the gas station instead… ∞
Amanda @ Click. The Good News says
New blog reader here…Happy anniversary! I played volleyball growing up for years in HS/college & terribly miss it when I see others playing, but I think I’m officially too old & too afraid of really hurting something to play in any type of rec league these day.
