Oh happy day! I just love Thursdays, don’t you? The weekend is almost here, which means sleeping in late, being lazy around the house, and enjoying the long holiday weekend. But first, another installment of the Thursday Thread 🙂
1. Hut Hut. Although I am tired of all of the SCC/Big 12 talk, I am pretty friggin excited about NCAA football beginning this weekend! I do wish the conference junk would just happen the way it is going to happen and be done with already, but knowing that that isn’t usually the case with politics, {and that’s really all it is, right?}, I will just sit impatiently by, waiting for that first kickoff. I digress…… In all seriousness, I genuinely LOVE college football — Big 12 (10), SEC, PAC 10, Big East, Conference USA — it really makes no difference. Give me a great game and you’ve got my full attention. The sound of my alma mater’s fight song, pulling out that #19 jersey that Mom bought 8 years ago when she visited me at college, and yelling. Lots of yelling. At the TV or from the bleachers, there is always yelling 🙂 It sounds bizarre, but I love it. Welcome back, football. Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back!
2. Pintastic. I did it! Since the day I joined Pinterest, I have been wanting to do a collage wall. After browsing a million pics, I decided that it had to be chic, creatively random, yet 110% cohesive. So I collected frames and other crafty things, and consulted Pinterest for the best trends. What do I have to show for all that work? Hehehe I’m so glad you asked…
My favorite part: I am already really happy with it, but there is still a little work to be done. See that blank canvas/linen piece? I need to paint that. I need to print photos to replace the ones I stole from the wall downstairs, and I need to add a few more frames because the top {of the stairs aka the far right of the collage} is a little unbalanced. But overall, I love it! We needed something in that stairway and I think this is perfect 🙂
3. OMG, the VMAs. I haven’t really watched the VMAs much since I was in college, but ever since Kanye did the whole T-Swift diss and Gaga wore that meat dress, I have been a little intrigued. So I watched on Sunday. And I was not impressed. Exception: Adele’s killer performance of Someone Like You. It made me that much more excited for her concert in October 🙂 So aside from Adele’s ballad, I found myself making the ‘Tess’ face a lot — awkward frown, head cocked to the side. WTH MTV?! Gaga impersonating a mechanic named Joe, Nikki Minaj’s costume-shop-explosion of an outfit, and Cloris Leachman awkwardly tossing around guido-lingo with the Jersey Shore cast? Epic fail, MTV.
4. Tunes for the Thread. Ever since I first heard it, I have been obsessed with Foster the People’s hit Pumped Up Kicks. It comes on the radio and Troy and I cannot help but bob our heads and break out into dance. Major dance. Arms swinging, heads shaking, hips moving, freak-out-the-person-next-to-you-at-the-traffic-light dancing. The music is so dang cheerful…which totally disguised the deep meaning of the song’s lyrics :-/ Once I actually came down to earth and listened to the words I was repeatedly belting out, they kind of served as a giant pin to my big smiley face dance balloon. I will have a bit of a hard time doing the cabbage patch to this song without feeling a little creepy, but the music is still super funky cool 🙂 That makes it okay then, right??? RIGHT???
5. LABOR Day. I feel like a complete moron. Until this week, I never really knew what Labor Day stood for. I always just associated it with no more white pants/shoes/dresses, a long weekend, sales, and football. But what’s it all for?! So yesterday, I did what any normal person would do — I Wikipedia’d it. And that’s when I felt completely moronic. Duh, Chelsea. LABOR day. As in work, wages, employees, labor. According to the US Department of Labor, “Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.” Did you know that? Come on, really?! Well now that I know, I plan to take my hard-earned money down to the store and see what kind of contribution I can make to the well-being of our fine country 🙂 Have a happy Labor Day, folks!

OMG I love the collage wall! I just did one last year up our stairs and I’m obsessed! I always feel like I should add something though but I didn’t have any good ideas. I have a question though, did you do all your prints in black and white, or did you mix in sepia tones? I can’t tell from the photos. Anyways, right now I have black and white and want to add sepia tones but I didn’t know if it would match. Anyways, I’m sure this is completely random, but I love looking at your website every so often and I’m glad I did today! Hope you’re doing well!

Thanks, Ashley! Most prints are b/w but there is a sepia one in there and two vintage post cards that we got in Spain which have a sepia effect to them because of wear. I wanted the collage to be a little mis-matched so I brought out brown hues with the tan linen, so it wouldn’t be just a wall of black/dark brown and white. There’s a little grey in there too 🙂 Oh, and a hint of yellow 🙂

Love the puppy silhouettes! I’m going to the Adele concert too- so excited! Tons of people watched the VMA’s this year- maybe just a random weekend where everybody was home? And hubby had to buy that Foster song after the first time he heard it.
