Cue the trumpets, release the confetti, and make way for the parade! It’s the big 5-0 for the Thread!! Let’s go ahead and get started because it’s going to be a long one!
1. Hopping On The Bandwagon. Twitter seems to be the new ‘thing’, especially among photographers. I always thought of Facebook as my go-to for the latest and greatest info with companies, people, celebs and the like, but apparently Twitter is taking over. Troy and our friend Jeff think that CDP needs to have a twitter account, but I explained that there is nothing too exciting going on that frequently in the day, or week for that matter, for me to tweet about! I admit that I am intrigued by following people on Twitter though; I hear that Blake Shelton and Conan O’Brien are pretty hilarious. I also hear that there’s a cupcake truck here in Houston that tweets it’s location, so that’s the only way you’ll know where they are. That’s crazy…and really cool. So what do you think? Should I jump on the bandwagon and join Twitter?? If so, would you follow me, and who do you recommend that I follow? Another trendy ap is Instagram. I didn’t get the big deal with Instagram until I actually logged in and started using it. I love the cool effects you can give photos, how easy it is to share your photos, and how you can see what the rest of the world is up to. I’ve found it to be pretty great; like a facelift for my regular iPhone photos. AND did you know that there are like a ton of vendors out there who can make your favorite Instagram photos into albums, calendars — pretty much anything? So cool. My Instagram account is new new new but my profile is under chelsea12 if you want to follow along. Here’s some of the awesomeness you’d be in for…I know, try to contain yourself:
2. Stripe Hype. I have been fighting an overwhelming urge to paint horizontal stripes in my house. I have no clue what room, possibly the dining room, but I want to paint them like yesterday. Pinterest isn’t helping either, with all of the adorable striped rooms floating around their website. I have seen a ton of grey stripes or baby room colors, but I wonder if doing a golden yellow or neutral tan would look good in my house instead? Grey is my fave but it’s too modern for the style we have going on in casa de Davis. I’m thinking of doing something like this or this, and our weekend is pretty open…so Troy, get ready to grab the rollers!
3. Eat, Drink, and Be Merry. This month is one of my favorite times in Houston because of Houston Restaurant Weeks! It’s an annual event that many local restaurants participate in, with proceeds benefitting the Houston Food Bank. From the website, “Houston Restaurant Weeks gives people in Houston an opportunity to experience Houstonβs exceptional restaurants while providing much-needed relief for families suffering from hunger.β We have found some fabulous places through Restaurant Weeks, and are looking forward to trying out a few more, like Trevisio, The Grove, Branch Water Tavern, and Backstreet Cafe. Anyone else starving now? I am.
4. CDP News. We got some great feedback about opening up the November 4 mini session, so it’s on the calendar! There are three spots available, with the same details as the October sessions {click here for info}. We offered a Katy and Tomball location for October, so the November mini sessions will be located in Houston! If you’d like to book, select a time slot in the drop-down below and reserve your spot before they’re all gone!
5. Giveaway Time. Since this is the 50th Thread, you know I just have to give something away, right?? My friend Sara opened up her Etsy shop not long ago and I LOVE all of her designs, so I thought a custom address stamp would be a fun giveaway item, don’t ya think?? They are super popular right now and I love the personalization you can add to them. To win this giveaway item, all you have to do is leave a comment below {sorry, comments left on my Facebook page do not count}. You can leave any comment you want — something regarding the Thread, what you had for dinner last night, or how totally insane the new Here Comes Honey Boo Boo show is — the sky is the limit! All comments will be entered, but we will only count one comment per person. You have until Sunday at midnight to enter. The winner will be announced on the blog and must contact me within 24hrs to redeem their prize or I will select a new winner. All participants must live within the continental US and provide a valid mailing address upon winning. I am not responsible if your item is lost, stolen or damaged during shipment. GOOD LUCK!!
6. Thread Tunes. I had three songs on my list this week, but in the spirit of our golden post, I figured I would go with Home by Phillip Phillips. I love LOVE this song! It makes me tap my foot every time it’s on; I actually thought it was Mumford & Sons when I first heard it on the radio {bonus!}. I didn’t watch American Idol during Phillip’s season, but I quickly caught wind of his awesomeness and have been a fan ever since, and being that his song is also ‘the’ song of the 2012 Olympics, I figured it was the perfect time to make Home the Thread Tune.
7. Soap Box. I didn’t want to start off on a low note, but I don’t know that ending on one is any better of an idea either. But I had to share this with you. My mom will kill me when she reads this; I know that because my husband and my friends almost killed me for her. But last weekend, while driving to meet my friends for brunch, I did something completely and totally stupid, something that we all KNOW is stupid but seem to think we are void from having happen to us: a cell phone-related accident. Before you freak, I didn’t get into an accident in the true sense of the word, and no one was hurt. My car is okay, except for a few scratches on the tires, but my pride and I were totally shaken. While driving probably 70mph on the Westpark, I looked down at my phone to see if my brunch friends had texted me back yet — I didn’t even touch my phone, I just LOOKED down at it in my lap, and before I knew it, my car was against the concrete barrier that separates the highway. Scared the crap out of me. Thank God I didn’t over-correct and force someone else into my moment of stupidity. Thank God I am okay and that it wasn’t anything serious. The accident that is. But the situation, totally 100% serious. How many times have we seen Oprah talk about texting while driving, the stories of families who lost someone to a half-typed text? I know that the AT&T commercials related to this subject are everywhere now, and they are intense. Distracttion.Gov has lots of facts that make this whole thing very real. Like the fact that drivers who use hand-held devices are 4 times more likely to get into crashes serious enough to injure themselves. And that text messaging creates a crash risk 23 times worse than driving while not distracted. And perhaps the craziest statistic: sending or receiving a text takes a driver’s eyes from the road for an average of 4.6 seconds, the equivalent-at 55 mph-of driving the length of an entire football field, blind. I am not trying to preach at you, I am just trying to tell you how terrified I was that I could’ve been seriously injured or worse because of my cell phone. Be careful out there, folks. Seriously.
8. Sneak Peek. I have a TON of sessions coming down the line that I am excited to share with you, including a fab wedding, a feature on Austin’s coolest new bar, a styled shoot {finally!} and a slew of adorable newborn sessions. I can’t share all of them with you right now, so until then, here’s a little snippet from the awesomeness to come π
And on that note, have a fantastic rest of the week, folks!! Big Hugs, and a BIG THANKS for hanging in there and reading all 50 of my Threads. It’s been really fun so far, and I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy rambling each week π
