For this shoot, I was inspired by my time living abroad in Seville, Spain, and had been waiting to do a themed shoot that was reminiscent of my time there. From the start, we set out to do something a little different, with lots of color, simple and modern styling, and a rich Spanish influence. Our vision included a bold color palette that included hues of red, bright oranges and yellows, and rich black, paired with romantic lace touches and traditional items from southern Spain. We drew our inspiration from a street-side cafes with iron tables and crisp table cloths, a cold pitcher of sangria, a sampling of tapas, and the passion and beauty of a traditional Spanish flamenco dancer…
The setting for our shoot resembled a common Spanish courtyard, complete with ivy-covered walls, lush gardens, and Mediterranean architecture, so we shot several different bridal portraits throughout the day to featuring those details. We wanted the bridals to be different and still very much in line with our vision, so we incorporated a number of Spain-inspired props for our model to shoot with, like a wooden Spanish hand fan, a white lace backdrop, and an elaborate white lacquer and black velvet chair from Re-collection Vintage Rentals.
Our model was the perfect bride for this shoot, with her striking features and exquisite style. She is recently married, and brought so much of that newlywed bliss to the images. Her dress is a stunning Enzoani strapless A-line gown with ruched, asymmetrical draped bodice and intricately layered floral organza pattern detailing along skirt. This particular dress was customized with a sweetheart neckline, organza detailing around the neckline, and tiered bubble pick up skirt. WINX Lash and Makeup Studio created a flawless, romantic up-do that was accented with a gorgeous birdcage-inspired hair accessory that was custom made for our model by Sonya’s Art. WINX did an equally flawless job with our bride’s makeup, creating a classic but sultry look. The main focus was bold, smoky eyes, which were emphasized by perfectly lush eyelash extensions, a WINX specialty. Bright lipsticks are really on trend right now, and what’s more Spanish than full red lips? Our model pulled them off perfectly, along with sassy red nails to add another pop of color for our Spanish bride. Select Jewelers provided us with a stunning collection of accessories to complete her look, which included a pair of diamond chandelier earrings, a graduated diamond tennis necklace, and matching bracelet. The lovely emerald-cut ring and wedding band are the model’s.
The beautiful invitation set by Lulubean Designs set the scene for a vibrant affair, featuring black late details, bold coloring, and lovely hand-written addresses in white ink, a great contrast to the ebony envelope. The bride’s bouquet, along with the gorgeous table arrangements and cake florals were expertly crafted by Lisa from Petals by Design. Her fun style came through with unique and vivid floral arrangements of red emperor tulips, orange and red ranunculus, yellow billy balls, and red pincushion proteas. Lisa added subtle white feather embellishments to the bride’s bouquet to match the her hair accessory, and decorated the handle of the bouquet with colorful lace and ribbon. Black milk glass vessels from Re-collection Vintage Rentals were overflowing with the same vibrant florals to make up the tables’ centerpieces, which also included oranges to represent the orange trees that line the streets of Seville, Spain. The oranges were part of the signature drink as well — a red sangria, and served as embellishments for each of the sangria glasses. Our food table featured a crisp white tablecloth reminiscent of a typical street-side cafe, and a black lace overlay. Black porcelain and clear glass plates featured samplings of some of Spain’s most traditional tapas dishes, provided by Tinto’s: tortilla espaƱola, patatas bravas, beef empanadas, and spanish chorizo skewers. The centerpiece of the table though, is an intricately decorated two-tier cake made by Rebecca Green, featuring exquisite lace detailing in bold black, with simple florals to add a punch of color. We wanted to keep the vibrant color scheme with this cake, instead of doing something light and traditional. The black studded milk glass cake stand from Re-collection really made the detail work on the cake really pop. Assorted red vessels with bright florals and silver filigree candlestick holders with red candles completed the bold look. We used a folding chalkboard to mimic the sidewalk signs seen along the streets in Spain to feature the tapas selection, and placed two iron lanterns alongside the board for an added touch. We also created a coordinating sweetheart table to feature a romantic dinner for two. Red chargers with black porcelain plates, black napkins, and silver flatware matched the theme from our food table. A few glasses of sangria, red votive candles, and another lovely floral arrangement tied it all together.
I am beyond thrilled with how this shoot came together and hope it inspires brides to take risks with bold colors and unique detailing that evokes a sense of passion and romance like that found in Spain.
A HUGE thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this vision come full circle. I can’t help but feel extremely lucky to get to work with some of the very best in the biz and being able to photograph their beautiful work. Hugs!
