I am a big fan of paying it forward and helping others, especially with photography. I would not be where I am right now if others in this industry weren’t willing to share their knowledge, and I love meeting others who are excited about and genuinely want to learn about this craft. A few weeks ago, I was able to meet with a lovely group of people to talk about all things photography at one of my workshops. We went over everything from terminology and camera settings, to lighting and how to shoot those special holiday photos. It was a class packed with information — and I give my group major props for listening to hours of me rambling on and on 🙂
Once again, Lisa from Petals by Design did an amazing job on the florals for the workshop. I love every single thing that lady creates 🙂
Of course there has to be yummy treats! Sweet is responsible for the adorable mini cupcakes and my SIL Jordan {little bit bakery} made those delectable cake balls. Both were a big hit.
One of my favorite parts about the workshop is the give-aways. I try to shop for and work with vendors to pick items that represent a mix of fun and functional for beginner photographers, and I just love all of the goodies we scooped up for the workshop. A very BIG thank you to Mpix, Lulubean Designs, Houston Camera Exchange, Lightscoop, Platypus Pouches, and Two Pink Hearts for these amazing items…and for being so awesome 🙂 Go check out their sites when you get a chance; they have wonderful products {that also make GREAT Christmas gifts…hint hint}. Side note: If I could send a hug through the internet, I would shoot a big one over to Keri from Platypus Pouches who sent me a lens case for every. single. attendee. to take home with them in their goody bag. WOW Keri, you are the greatest!!
I think everyone is a bit insecure when they speak in front of groups, but I seriously look like a big dork 🙂
…and these are my jazz hands…
I think this is my favorite shot from the day: all cameras up!
I could kick myself, because in the midst of practicing with hands-on shooting, I completely failed to get a group photo 🙁 what-the-heck-were-you-thinking-chelsea!! Bummer. Other than that little misstep on my part though, I’d say it was a very successful workshop, mostly due to having the best attendees. I had the most fun getting to know everyone and what has them intersested in photography; whether it was their kids, taking photos for friends and family, travel, or nature, everyone came to the workshop with an eagerness to learn, and goals to grow their personal photography skills and get those cameras off AUTO mode! I couldn’t have been happier with how the day turned out.
The goal for each of my workshops is to familiarize novice/amateur camera users with their DSLR camera, teach them as many of the basic ins and outs as possible, and how to apply that knowledge to capturing beautiful everyday photos of their own. Of course, the greatest way to learn is always PRACTICE, but I think that having a good foundation of knowledge and understanding of what you’re doing and why provides a greater sense of confidence going forward with your camera. If you are interested in attending a future workshop, follow the blog or become a fan on FB — that’s where I announce all of my upcoming classes 🙂
Thanks for another wonderful workshop everyone!
