Lately, I have seen so many people paying homage to a little trend called Throwback Thursday — on Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook…. It’s really neat to see old photos of people, most of them kind of funny and a little embarrassing {hellooooo brace face!}. So I thought it would be kind of cool to theme this week’s Thread after Throwback Thursday. Whadayasay??
1. Throwback Threads. Troy told me recently about a seriously talented designer and fellow Red Raider, Eric Renteria of Etiquette Vintage Design. He is the mastermind behind a gorgeous vintage-inspired clothing line that was a huge hit at the latest NY fashion week, showcasing hip, classic looks, and the absolute coolest throwback collegiate sweaters I have ever seen. I have to tell you, I almost caved and sent Eric a request for a custom piece for the hubs and me, like these, but cooler heads prevailed 🙂 Everything he does is just so uniquely awesome; you have to check this guy out! You can see a lot of his designs on his Pinterest page.
2. Throwback Treasures. I am a big fan of all things old: hand-me-downs, vintage, classic — whatever you want to call it, I am usually all for it. Especially when it comes to baby stuff. I’m not saying that I don’t enjoy the current trends, like chevron prints and baby TOMS, but there’s just something so sweet about delicate lace and monograms, about traditions and crossing generations. Having a girl definitely inflated my infatuation with the traditional, classic baby stuff too. As soon as I could, I was scouring through the old boxes in my mom’s attic, picking out toys, trinkets, and dresses from my childhood to give to our baby. My mom even gifted us a quilt that my great great grandmother hand-stitched in 1784! Hello, Throwback! I am in love with it all; just being in the nursery surrounded by little things that I used to have as a baby, and items that were used by my parents, grandparents, and generations before them, makes me feel like she is already part of our great family and that she will be surrounded by its history and traditions. Cheesy and sappy, I know 🙂 But I promise her nursery is not just a miniature version of grandma’s attic. I will share photos very soon so you can see how we incorporated both the old and the new into this special room 🙂 I am pretty sure it’s my favorite in the whole house!
3. Throwback Tunes. So instead of picking just one throwback tune, I figured I would show some respect to an entire radio station dedicated completely to throwbacks. If we are friends on Facebook, then you may know that I am slightly obsessed with the newest Sirius station, Pop2K — channel 10. It speaks perfectly to my generation {those of us who were in high school or college circa 1999-2010}. It basically plays pop hits from the 2000s and it is legit throwback. As legit as flip phones and wearing Ugg boots with shorts. I can’t get enough of that station and catch myself cranking up the volume, saying “Oh man! I remember this song” more often than not. I also have a crazy good memory {seriously, ask Troy} and am instantly taken back to exact moments in time where I was listening to a ‘throwback’ song. For example, I spent way too many nights in college getting ready to go out with my friends, listening to Burn by Usher or Toxic by Britney Spears {oh my!}. And I will never forget hearing Poetry for the first time at my first Pat Green concert in Lubbock, Tx. Oh memories… If you are of the 2000s music crowd, I think you will seriously love this station so go check it out {and be sure to program it to your saved stations…you know you want to}.
4. Throwback Snapshot. For your enjoyment, here is a throwback of Troy and me, taken in the good ol college days 🙂
Happy Thursday!
