Hello there! I know it seems silly, but boy it feels GOOD to blog again. I know it has only been a few weeks, but blogging reminds me of the days where I had some structure, a schedule, and tangible to-do list! Since our sweet Bree’s arrival, none of those things really exist right now ๐ And that’s quite okay with me — we are LOVING life with our baby girl — but if I am being honest, I do sometimes miss the simple mornings of having nothing else to do but type a little blog post!
Since I am on temporary leave, I won’t be blogging other people’s sessions for a few more weeks, but I do have lots to share for those of you who are interested, starting with Bree’s nursery. I was able to photograph it just a few days before her arrival, but it has been finished for weeks ๐ I am a planner and that was a definite must-have before Bree got here and I am so happy that I was able to check that off the list. We started working on the nursery before we knew what we were having, purchasing the crib, dresser, shelf, and side table by the time I started my second trimester! And once we found out that we would be having a girl, I immediately put my ideas {and secret Pinterest boards} into action.
Troy let me take the reins on decorating the nursery {mostly bc we were having a girl and he had zero opinions on decor!} but he did approve the theme of old-meets-new, and the vintage-inspired color scheme of blush pink, duck egg blue, seaglass, yellow, and coral, with touches of white and grey. I started with the bedding, scouring every store and website for the perfect set, which was an extremely daunting task for this perfectionist. Once I realized that nothing fit my vision, I decided we needed to go custom. Picking fabric is so darn hard though, seriously. I don’t know how designers do it, creating whole rooms from swatches of fabric. I went through probably 40 different samples beforeย finally picking our selection for the bedding, which was custom made by a super-talented and extremely kind family friend. I am in total love with it too — so whimsical, and it ties everything in the nursery together perfectly…if I do say so myself {hehe}. I am a big DIY-er, especially when I can’t find exactly what I want {which was an issue with pretty much everything to do with the nursery}, so once the bedding was picked out, the hubs and I did a lot of the rest of the decor ourselves: refinishing all of the furniture, creating all of the wall art, making the curtain rod, blanket ladder, lamp, etc.
I could go on and on about how much work fun the nursery was, but I will just let the photos speak for themselves. I am so proud of this special room and I cannot wait for Bree to officially make it her own!
In keeping with the old-meets-new theme of the nursery, I had to include this vintage donkey. It was my dad’s when he was a baby, and we had it in our room when we were kids. I love that Bree gets to enjoy it in her room now ๐
That vintage chick pillow is probably my favorite thing in the whole room. I have wanted one of these vintage cloth bookpage pillows {from a vendor at Round Top} for EVER but couldn’t bring myself to pay the hefty price tag until I knew we would have a nursery to put it in. We picked up this little lovely during our Round Top trip this past spring and I fall in love every time I look at it — isn’t it perfect for the room??!!
This collage wall is made up of some very special pieces, including a hand-stitched teddy bear that my mom made when I was a baby, photos from our maternity session, quotes and verses that I want Bree to live by and learn from, and a few fun designs that I made myself.
LOVE this F. Scott Fitzgerald quote…
Troy is a very handy man and expertly crafted this adorable ladder to hold all of Bree’s blankets, including a few that my mom made for Bree, and one that my great great grandmother made in 1784!ย That white sweater was mine when I was a baby ๐
I just had to show you our girl’s closet. Troy turned a horrible builder-grade closet into a functional spaceย full of clothes and shoes and all kinds of completely fabulous-but-unnecessary things that us girls love to have ๐ What a great {and handy} daddy, right?!
I just love this room ๐
