Happy 2014! I celebrated my 29th birthday yesterday, and since it’s so close to New Year’s, I typically don’t start my resolutions until the 6th 🙂 I spent too many years making vows to work out more or eat healthier starting January 1, only to break those resolutions four days later at the sight of my chocolate birthday cake. So January 6 marks the starting point for my resolutions. I consider it a gift to myself — four bonus days of lazy behavior 🙂 And boy did I capitalize on that this year…
I have enjoyed some much-needed time with family over the past few weeks and I hope you have too, time spent recharging and refocusing for a brand new year. 2013 brought so many wonderful changes for us both personally and professionally that I really felt like I needed to sit down and write out my goals and expectations for the year ahead in order to get ahead. I started by looking at where I felt I needed the most growth — which is NOT a fun place to start — and I found that the biggest area for improvement was time management. Balancing work and home duties with a newborn baby was, for me, a complete fantasy. Y’all, I’m not kidding — I would daydream about color-coordinated calendars, perfectly placed post-it notes, and an empty inbox. And I did this at 2 in the morning while editing photos and catching up on DVRd shows. Bad, bad habit. Being tired and stressed and feeling like you are juggling 100 things at once does not make for a very cheerful chica most days and I craved that feeling of accomplishment and productivity, far beyond just showering and keeping Bree fed/changed/clean/happy. If I am being honest, I don’t know quite where to start just yet, but my calendar is slowly seeing more color and I have lots of notes with possible solutions, so I feel like I am making some progress 🙂
What gets YOU organized, keeps you on schedule, and helps you juggle the day-to-day??
And because a post just isn’t a post without a photo, here is a sneak peek at the gorgeous Maddi, whose senior session will be hitting the blog this week!
