A few weeks ago, we loaded up the car and made the drive out to Fredricksburg, Tx. for a little couples get-away with some of our good friends. It was our first weekend away from Bree and we missed her like crazy, but she was in good hands and we were in good company, so we were able to relax and enjoy ourselves for a few days (thanks, Mom!). One of my all time favorite drives is the one to Fredricksburg. Winding through the hills, passing under the oak trees and spotting deer at every turn — it’s the hill country at its finest, and we relished in every last bit of it. It had been years since our last visit so of course I brought my camera (with intention to take more non-work photos) and snapped lots of photos of our trip, starting with the car ride…
Troy and I did a wine tour as part of our first anniversary trip years ago, and revisited a few of our favorites before meeting up with the gang in Fredricksburg. If you are looking for a beautiful winery with delectable wines, Grape Creek and Pedernales Cellars are definite winners in our book.
After indulging in a little vino and some cheese and crackers, we headed out to the cabins where we were staying, and started a ย campfire for when the rest of the group arrived. Something you should know, I am completely enamored with campfires. Not in a pyromaniac kind of way; I am just captivated by them. There’s something so primitive and fascinating, and beautiful about a campfire — I could stare into one for hours… or just photograph it a million times ๐
One of my most favorite images — it’s perfectly Troy.
That pretty girl on the left is Faren; she was the planner behind this awesome trip and will be welcoming her first bebe in April — we cannot wait to meet her!
Told ya I loved campfires ๐
And what’s a campfire without s’mores?!!??!
This flashlight was my attempt at creating additional light for my camera to focus on…kind of a major fail ๐
Raider’s favorite spot: curled up at his dad’s feet, right by the fire…
I love this shot of twins Matt and Grace…
The next day, the girls did some shopping and the boys played a round of golf before we met up and headed out to Luckenbach for lunch, live music, and a little bit of washers.
And then we were off to Enchanted Rock. In our defense, we did NOT know how steep of a climb this was going to be — quite the ascend up slippery slabs of rock and around jagged boulders. But the view? Spectacular. And totally worth it.
Faren began the climb with the rest of us — such a trooper, that preggo!
Due to lack of common senseย adequate prep about Enchanted Rock’s terrain, most of us failed miserably in the ‘proper rock-climbing attire’ department. Note for future reference: TOMs, tennis shoes, boots, Sperry’s, and flip flops are not gonna cut it. Oh, and bring a bottle of water… or three.
Halfway point!
That view…………
We saw some pretty interesting spectacles while atop the rock, like this group of yogis (my sister would SO appreciate this).
Lugging a 20lb camera bag to the top of aย 1825′ tall ‘rock’ probably wasn’t the best idea, but capturing this view was worth the pain in lugging the extra pounds!
Back at the cabins, the sun was setting and I took the opportunity to snap a few more photos.
The property we rented raises elk, which apparently are quite aggressive. Y’all. I almost got mauled by an elk. No joke!
See, doesn’t she look meeeeeeannn??
These two males were playing around and showing off for the camera ๐
Rachel and Joe’s sweet girl, Maggie.
What a fun get-away. I would venture to the hill country every weekend if I could….
Thanks for a fun trip, friends. You guys are the best, and we are already looking forward to the next adventure ๐
(Side note: kudos to my pal Grace for capturing some of the campfire shots, and some of the Enchanted Rock shots! The [photography] force is strong with this one.)
