I love this beautiful weather we’ve been having, but I am not too keen on the allergies that go with it. I’ve been suffering from allergies and a sinus infection for almost a week now and Bree is a bit sniffly these days too, so we’ve been laying low and trying to rest up. All that to say I was so tired and under the weather last week that I totally missed the fact that it was Thursday, resulting in a missed Thread. Wah wah. But we are back this week, and with lots of steam…
1. Confession. Taking into mind what I wrote above — sick, tired, and sick baby — you can image how wonderful the days are around here lately (sarcastic tone intended). And today, well, it was a doozie y’all. Bree woke up mad, pretty much stayed mad until breakfast where she proceeded to hurl peaches across the kitchen, played a bit before busting her lip open (second booboo this week), refused her lunch after knocking mine on the floor, cried some more, took a bottle, then cried the entire time I rocked her (and cried along with her) before she finally crashed. Feel my pain? After battling with my kid all morning and wiping my her tears away, I finally got the Thread ready [enough] to post… and then I thought to myself, “why not ask for help?” You are some of the most capable mommies I know, and you’ve been in my shoes. I know days like today aren’t the norm (Bree really is a great baby) and this day just had the perfect recipe for everything to go south, but what do YOU do when you feel like you are going to lose your mind? Do you take a two-minute break? Ball your eyes out and have a good cry? Laugh? Pray? I did a number of those today, and the day is only half over…
2. Penny Pincher. I am slightly obsessed with hair accessories for Bree. I’ve mentioned it before, so it may not be news to some of you, but it is true. Upon finding out we were having a girl, I knew there would be lots of bows and ribbon and headbands in our future but what I didn’t plan for was the expense! Man, people are PROUD of their hair bows creations! I have managed to find some pretty reasonable ones on Etsy but after shipping, I ended up spending enough to buy the material and make it myself for a fraction of the cost…and about 10 times the quantity. So that’s what I’ve done. Any time I am at a craft store and see elastic or ribbon on sale, or a fabric flower or something that I think would make a cute headband, I stock up and add it to my stash. Of course there are also great wholesale vendors on Etsy as well so I do use several of them when I need items for super cheap, in bulk, or any specialty items. So if you want to save some dough and try your hand at crafting some yourself, search for tutorials on Pinterest and YouTube for easy ideas and check out Hobby Lobby or Michael’s for materials to get started. It’s so easy, maybe you too will become addicted 🙂 Troy says that even though I DOsave a lot of money by making Bree’s hair accessories myself, we now have dozens and dozens more than we would’ve had if I just caved and bought one or two of the expensive ones here and there. Truth, Troy. Very true. But a girl does have to have options 😉
3. CDP News. I am still working on a new Thread logo and will post it very soon. The problem with designing your own logo (paired with being quite indecisive) means it’s taking a lot longer than planned, but I hope to unveil it by the end of the month — fingers crossed! I also wanted to mention that I am getting the plans together for a summer workshop, so if you haven’t already contacted me to be among the first to know about it, shoot me a message! I am currently planning for July. And speaking of July, I have started booking sessions out through the summer months so if you are interested in a session, you’ll want to get on the calendar soon! I am dreaming up all kinds of fun shoot ideas (including a possible set of beach minis near Galveston) and am more excited about shooting this summer than I’ve been in a while 🙂
4. Thread Tune. I am a huge The Voice fan and this season is packed with crazy talent but I am calling a win for Christina Grimmie, all the way. I followed her YouTube channel where she covered popular songs (oftentimes better than the original) and after seeing her rendition of Drake’s Hold On, We’re Going Home it is clear that this girl is headed straight to the top. Fun fact: I actually mentioned Christina Grimmie for the first time on the Thread in October of 2011 in my 12th Thread! Can you believe that??
5. Sneak Peek. I did a last-minute set of bluebonnet minis a few weeks ago (they were just too perfect not to shoot in!) and have been putting the finishing touches on the images from those sessions so I can share them with you soon. Here is a peek at one session with my favorite duo, Levi and Kate:
