I got to head to San Antonio a few weeks ago to photograph this little beauty, and my oh my is she beautiful. Leighton is the newest member of our extended family — Troy’s cousin’s little girl and Bree’s second cousin (did ya get all that??) and I was so excited to meet her. She did not disappoint either, such a good baby and quite photogenic if I do say so myself. She was such a trooper as we worked through all of the family poses and her individual poses, which I am dying over. Not to mention her one-of-a-kind nursery totally handcrafted by mommy Vera. This may very well be my absolute favorite nursery of all time, it is that precious. Lavender walls, vintage and eclectic furniture and accent pieces, details that Vera made herself — it’s perfection. My favorite part has got to be the antique doily collection (comprised of different family doilies) that Vera fastened to embroidery hoops. How creative is that?!?! I could have spent all day swooning over that nursery. Take a look yourself…
I am obsessed with this bedding too! We were ‘this’ close to using something similar for Bree’s room. Isn’t it the best???
Vera made each of these butterflies by hand, painting them and attaching the feathered wings to the wooden bodies and stringing them alongside tiny circular mirrors. It was inspired by a display at Neiman Marcus and I would argue that she totally nailed it. They are incredible.
And here’s sweet Leighton, pretty as can be:
This next set is so special — Leighton is curled up atop the most incredible fur jacket, part of the collection Vera has from her late mother. It was a last-minute idea when deciding how to stuff the basket, and I am thrilled with how it came together.
That grin!!
These family photos are proof of why I feel that shooting newborn sessions in the home cannot be beat. It’s about being comfortable and in the moment and totally smitten with your newest addition. I had an ear-to-ear smile as I edited these 🙂
Big brother Cale loved kissing Leighton’s toesies 🙂
And these next two are definite favorites in the category of sibling shots. Love them!
Vera and Dayton, thank you for letting me photograph this special time for you and help capture these beautiful memories. Your family is the sweetest and it was my pleasure shooting for you. Hugs from Houston!!
