1. Father’s Day. I am blessed to have many wonderful ‘dads’ in my life, all of whom I am excited to honor on Sunday. I know how rare the good ones are and knowing that my life is full of em, well that’s worth celebrating. Even though I won’t be able to spend the special day with all of my special guys, I do get to spend it with my favorite one 🙂 This will be Troy’s first Father’s Day and although we don’t have much planned outside of church and taking him to brunch at his favorite place, I know that Bree and I will do all that we can to spoil him rotten all day long. He is the best Daddy and getting to watch him in this new role has been truly amazing. We picked up a few things to thank him for being so wonderful, but I am starting to think that I should’ve gotten him something a little more clever, like this t-shirt, help practicing his short game, or this essential piece of kitchen clothing. Here’s hoping he likes homemade gifts instead! 😉
2. Swimsuit Season. Do these two words evoke trepidation and anxiety in you at the pure sight of them? They sure do that for me. Especially in my first official summer post pregnancy. Yes, Bree was born in June but we stayed indoors for the greater part of two months after her arrival, so swimsuits weren’t really on my mind (or necessary) when we were finally ready to venture beyond the front door. And in the month or so before her debut, I was sporting a 35+ week bump, obviously preggo, so I rocked a maternity swimsuit and enjoyed not having/trying to look thin. This year, I have no excuse really. No crutch in the form of a baby bump. Just me and the intimidating racks of barely-there summer wear. I have a hard time fathoming myself in any of those suits, or even the dozens I’ve collected over the years. So when I signed Bree up for swim lessons and realized they were ‘mommy and me’ classes, I had a small panic attack. I had no clue how to shop for a ‘mom’ swimsuit that didn’t make me look like Laura Ingalls. Target had a few decent options but I found my best picks via an Instagram convo I stumbled upon, which gave several high recommendations for Albionfit, Kingdom and State, and Piper & Scoot. I love their vintage style and am currently debating which to get (there are so many cute ones!), so if you too are looking for something with more coverage than the average floss-and-bandaid styles that are all over the place, definitely check out those sites.
3. Cutting Back. Given that I just boo-hoo’d about swimsuit season, you’d think ‘cutting back’ means I am starting a new diet. Wrong-o. We aren’t necessarily cutting back where food is concerned, but rather in every other area we can. Troy and I are looking at selling our house and making the move to someplace a little bigger, so that means it’s time to hunker down and start saving our pennies. We started reading some of Dave Ramsey’s literature on the topic and are making cuts where we can. Boy is it hard, but I just keep daydreaming about cooking in a big ol’ kitchen or having a play room for Bree and it keeps me on track. We are also cutting back the amount of TV we’ve been watching, trying to spend more time doing. Walking, swinging with Bree, playing in the yard, anything is better than falling victim to the talking heads. I’ve gotten so frustrated with what’s on TV lately, and when Troy and I talked about the few shows we actually enjoy, we realized we could simply use Netflix and Apple TV to meet those needs and eliminate the bulk of our cable bill. Do any of you subscribe to Netflix? Use Apple TV/smart TV? Tell me what you think, and if it’s smart to take the plunge and nix cable.
4. Thread Tunes. I like most everything by John Mayer, and when I heard his recent cover of Beyonce’s XO I actually thought it was one of his songs! This man can cover a song, y’all. Alongside Free Fallin’, this cover is an instant fave of mine now and I am glad the radio can’t get enough of it because I think it is all I’ve listened to the past few weeks. If somehow you haven’t heard it yet, go give it a listen and swoon over how great it is. So great 🙂
And just for laughs to finish out your day, check out this HILARIOUS music video made by Richard Dunn to pass the time as the only person in Las Vegas’ McCarran airport. I died.
Have a happy Thursday, y’all!
