1. Nice and Polished. One way that I feel ‘refreshed’, even with three day old hair, yoga pants, and animal crackers stuck to my shirt, is keeping my nail polish up-to-date. No, I don’t get into the trends of nail art with elaborate designs (ain’t nobody got time for that!), but a good, seasonal nail color is the perfect way for ME to feel like I (somewhat) have it together. On the rare occasion that I can actually get my nails done, a dark OPI color is typically my go-to; salons almost always have them. I love How Great Is Your Dane, Viking in a Vinter Vonderland, French Quarter for Your Thoughts, You Don’t Know Jacques, and my seasonal go-to: Lincoln Park After Dark. But I stepped way outside of my comfort zone yesterday and decided to paint my nails with a little something different that I picked up at Ulta months ago: High Roller by Ulta. It’s a shimmery, thick gold polish — I hate when you think they are going to have good coverage and they actually turn out to be transparent with flecks of glitter in them. It almost looks platinum, it’s so pretty! Photo of the polishes below, and a peek at my nails on Instagram 😉
2. Hitting the Mark. While we’re speaking about feeling refreshed, I HAD to step out of the house last night and spend an hour (almost two) just for me. We’ve had a lot going on lately and I desperately needed a little down time to empty my crazy brain! So where did I go? Target, duh. There’s something therapeutic about zombie-walking through the aisles of this great store (especially in the later hours when it’s nearly empty), getting to browse each and every little nicknack without having to soothe a kid, entertain a kid, hold a kid, or run out abruptly because of a kid 🙂 Y’all, I looked at everything there possibly was, just because I could! I was super impressed by their holiday stuff this year too — dollar section included! I scooped up so many cool things!! Target is almost always on trend with their stuff but they are really bringing it this year. I will be using a lot of my finds at our annual christmas party with friends so I will share all of it with you soon. Just think buffalo check, natural wood, and pops of black and gold. Thank you, TARGET!!
3. CDP News. I will be wrapping up the year early, taking the next few weeks to finish editing sessions and getting prints and products in for you guys before I officially go on maternity leave. And I can’t believe I just said that. This pregnancy has FLOWN by. Like a lear jet. Baby boy will be here before we know it and there is so much left to do, so I am grateful for the time to not only take care of all the loose ends before his arrival, but to also soak in the holidays with family — something I haven’t gotten to do a lot of over the years. Good timing, little guy! If you need anything at all from me, shoot me an email so I can take care of it before going on leave! That includes Christmas gift certificates for that special someone (at 2014 rates!), because who wouldn’t LOVE the gift of photography via a family photo session??? Remember that several families/siblings/loved ones can split the cost of a session, making it really affordable for each person to chip in and give such an awesome gift. I am not biased at all 😉
4. Thread Tune. Troy and I have been watching Sonic Highways on HBO, a documentary about the making of the Foo Fighers’ newest record (released this week), called Sonic Highways. The documentary is incredible and we look forward to watching it each week. “Each song on the new album was recorded in a different city, featuring “local legends” on each song and lyrics inspired by the ”experiences, interviews and personalities that became part of the process.” — Wikipedia. It is an awesome series to watch if you are a music lover in general, and the album is a fantastic listen, especially if you like the older sound of the Foo Fighters. My current track obsession is Something From Nothing, and getting to see the background behind writing and recording the song makes it that much cooler. Listen and thank me later 😉
5. Celebration! Saturday marks six years of marriage for the hubs and me, and apparently tradition states that the appropriate gift category for six years of bliss is sugar/candy (?!) or iron, and the modern guide suggests wood. Hm. Okay? Thankfully we don’t usually adhere to those guidelines, although it would be super easy to buy for Troy if we did this year (a giant bag of Skittles!). The truth is that I had no idea about these suggestions before Googling it this morning and the irony is that last night I told Troy that my anniversary gift was our new fireplace — he has been working SO HARD on it over the past few days — made of…you guessed it….all wood! So maybe we will stick to this gift-giving guide this year 😉 Sweets and wood. Ha! Gift or no gift, I love this guy madly, and the life we have built together over the years. There’s not a single thing I take for granted in him; he is absolutely my better half, the anchor of this family. Blessed is what I am, and absolutely undeserving of this wonderful guy. Happy six years, love!
