As promised, today I am sharing Everett’s nursery with you! I had too much fun planning and executing this little oasis for him, probably more so than with Bree’s room because I felt so much more confident in my decision-making and decor ideas this time around. I put too much pressure on myself with Bree’s room so I intentionally let myself have fun and not stress about Everett’s room, which made the process so much more relaxing — what nesting should be when you are 7/8/9 months pregnant (in my opinion). I didn’t fret over too many details but rather let the room come together naturally. Having a similarly-themed baby shower (thanks, Rach!), a mom who sews, and a love of random unique things helped make it all come together.
The entire nursery ‘theme’ grew around the Fawn print I found on Society 6. Regardless if we had a boy or girl, I knew I had to incorporate that deer print in there so I purchased it soon after finding out we were pregnant and just waited to go further with decorating once we knew the gender. Then we picked the color, which was super easy because I tend to be very decisive while pregnant. Very. We had just moved into the new house and were picking colors for all of the other rooms and were in a time crunch so I flipped through the Sherwin Williams swatch book and picked the most serene, masculine color I could find. Its called Comfort Grey and it has become my favorite color in the whole house. I love how soft and calm it is. Hopefully Everett will enjoy it too as we transition him to his room this week 🙂
I wanted a modern feel for the room, but with some natural elements as well, and if you have seen my house, you know that’s kind of my style in general. I found the dresser on Craigslist (and made Troy trek over an hour away to get it — thanks, Fred!) and was excited to paint it an actual color (all of Bree’s furniture was grey). I don’t remember what the name is but it’s a slate blue from Behr. It compliments the room color perfectly! We collected little knick knacks over the months, from Round Top, our travels, and family members, things that we could put on the shelves and add to the collage wall (another Davis house staple).
Troy built the Restoration Hardware-inspired shelves from this tutorial and we added an Annie Sloan dark wax for a darker look to match the Jenny Lind crib we purchased on Amazon. On the shelves, I included an antique spaniel tray I found resale, some decor from my baby shower, a few prints from various online sites, a Lindsay Letters Whales and Tales printable, and of course a pair of E’s tiny little Freshly Picked moccasins 🙂 I am most proud of that stag ‘science poster’ though. I purchased it resale from a lady for $7! It was in bad shape and the colors were really off from the original (so I assumed) but once I got it in the nursery, I realized it was perfect with the other colors. We decided to trash the rickety frame and Troy build a science poster- inspired frame for it instead. Super easy and such a fun, different approach to hanging art, wouldn’t you agree??
The gallery wall is one of my favorite gallery walls I have ever done (and I have done quite a few!), with the hipster cow skull I snagged from BrickyardBuffalo.com, a wooden arrow from Hobby Lobby, the ‘E’ I got from a local boutique, and two tree stump art pieces I wood burned myself 🙂 Those were hard to make, y’all! The framed art above E’s bed also has a special place in my heart with the adorable fawn print at the center, a feather Troy got from the deer lease on one side, and one of my favorite Lindsay Letters Heritage printables on the other (all in Ikea frames). Finishing touches include some adorable woodland animal pillows from HomeGoods, a plaid crib sheet and woodgrain changing pad cover that my mom made, a striped blanket and wooden floor lamp from Target, and simple white curtains hung from an oak tree branch we found on a walk one afternoon. The super-comfy and luxurious glider and ottoman is from a resale site (for a fraction of the retail price!), and the rug was from RugsUsa.com.
So there it is, Everett’s serene modern woodland nursery 🙂 I am very proud of it! Here are some photos so you can see how it turned out…
